Interesting that Meta expects to generate $2 billion from Meta Verified.

I have my doubts but their bean counters apparently went over the numbers.

It might actually work for Meta. Unlike Twitter, people actually use Facebook and Instagram. Twitter is kind of a public announcement board: it's a place where celebrities, major corporations and other entities make announcements. The number of people using twitter actively is very low. In contrast Instagram and Facebook is for "normal" people, which is a much larger userbase.

@atomicpoet The ad market is not cratering. It is down from the time we were locked at home spending all of our time online looking for shit to buy, but the overall trend line is still up. Why is business reporting always so bad.

@atomicpoet I haven’t used Facebook products for many years but know many who do. I do doubt though that many of them will pay to use Meta products if there is a free version regardless of the supposed benefits of paying for verification.

@atomicpoet I'm definitely never paying any social media company every month to verify my identity.

I didn't even wanna use my real name in the first place.

I think it is MKBHD on #Youtube that looked into these services. #Twitter and Youtube both only have a 10% hit ratio with paid users. Spotify has the highest with some expected number (will look for a source)

Basically, #Facebook will only get 10% paid users. That's 100M, if they are lucky. So Mark, y'all better charge them $20.
