@J12t @mike that's how the "open web" has always worked; anybody can run an SMTP server and send email to anyone else. The responsibility for filtering the spam lies with the consumer.
@schizanon@mike yep, except the fediverse these days is more explicit that some โedgeโ decisions are made by the user themselves, some by instance operators/moderators, now with sharing block lists, arguably some decisions are made not at the edge any more.
