Babka: Can you imagine what that TikTok video would have looked like if we lived in a Jewish society? 😂 Is defrosting cooking? What would the proper prayer be over melting frozen food? 🤔 Here's a photo of my cat. 🐱

This toot makes me dance. Hooorah! Hip Hip Hoorah!

All the online papers today have five of six "stories" based on collecting Elon the Propagandist's twitter tweets to add 400 words to.

Advertising the Jan6th-ist's ugly racist platform.

@Michigander OR.... this could be the Mastodon part:

"Please read my academic white paper describing the dangers of defrosting frozen food using high temperature water with regards to bacterial growth."

(am I right? 😂)

@Michigander Funny thing is if ur on #Mastodon awhile you already know this is #Feature not #Bug . I'll have mine medium rare thank you

@Michigander I just am on Twitter for the hashtag games. The people I follow are too intelligent to post weird stuff like that.

I want them all too move to Mastodon because Musk is running that platform into the ground. Somebody needs to start up hashtag games here.

@DavidSamuelAuer

I like the hashtag games too. An architect I followed was particularly good at thinking up new topics.

Also the ongoing arguments Australians have about which is the correct name for things ( there are local differences) and what is the correct amount of #vegemite to spread on your toast ( with images).

@Michigander @chrisjrn I chuckled when I thought that the punchline was that the last one was just quirky and unrelated and I sobbed when I realized a few seconds later that it was a reaction to the same event

@Michigander Yahoo news of the next few days "inexplicable rise in food poisonings".

Well, this is…unexpected. Please support education and educators. Especially now.

@Michigander You know what they say: Toad style is immensely strong... When it's properly used, it's almost invincible.

@Michigander Alas, using the microwave set for defrost is better, even if a bit slower. However, I agree that US education system is failing. Underfunding isn't the only problem. Political interference is killing basic science along with honest history and health ed. Reading and writing had already collapsed. Privately funded education, (including "vouchers") is even worse. 😒

@Michigander You forgot the TikTok video testing whether the life hack works. Preferably with some cat-content added. :ablobcatattention:

@Michigander I, for one, welcome our new home-schooled overlords!

@Michigander and that's why out of all of these options I'm only using Mastodon.

@Michigander in Bulgaria we don't say "yeah, that's fucking obvious, duh", we say "that guy just invented hot water" and I think it's beautiful

(yeah, it's an actual idiom)

Michigander :toad:

@lanzz I like your Bulgarian idiom and will have to start using it!

@Michigander but the important question is whether you put the milk in the cup first, or add after the tea?

Icetre Normal

@Michigander Me: Lol, Ironically the temperature of the water is largely irrelevant; if you want to defrost frozen food quickly the key is -running- water.

A trickle of cold running water will defrost a steak quicker than sticking it in a gallon of 100 degree water.

A trickle of 100 degree water will defrost it quicker; but only marginally so...

Quite counterintuitively, it pretty much doesn't matter what temp the water is, as long as it's above freezing.

@Michigander don’t forget that Yahoo News would nest this story between two stories about (actress A in a hot bikini) and (actress B in short shorts in the snow), where it’s easy to find…

Noah Cook

@Michigander I can assure you that the medical version of this is, if anything, more extreme by several orders of magnitude.

Stefan

@Michigander a very good and scary example about why underfunding education is a serious Problem. 😉👍

DELETED

@Michigander Mastodon users are more like pic related and this whole thread confirms that

scott f

@Michigander Oh come on. Give us the link to the white paper

@Michigander also mastodon: look at the health risk when using hot water to defrost food. It’s actually forbidden in restaurants. tastingtable.com/933603/why-yo

@Michigander And here I sit, on Mastodon, reading about public schools, while my dinner defrosts on the countertop. 😆

@Michigander

This is why 90% of the news elicts the same reaction.

Mrinappropriate

@Michigander I love this. Accurate. As an aside, why do so many “news outlets” say everything 3 times? Occasionally the first 3 paragraphs are virtually identical. Is it to boost the word count, or are we that stupid now?

𝔼k 𝓋ℴ𝓃 𝕂𝔫ä𝔭𝔭𝔢𝔫𝔟𝔢𝔯g

@Michigander mastodon: i am passively outraged at how stupid people are so i posted some c&t pics

DEDGirl

@Michigander Okay, but… isn’t this something taught at home? Science doesn’t really teach about cooking, nor too much about bacteria. Maybe Home Ec taught it, but that hasn’t been offered in decades. This is definitely something you learn at home, or on TikTok! Where are our smart TikTokers to influence the correct info?!?
