@fc @alexwild When I switched instances, I actually started from scratch with zero follows because my previous list got way too overwhelming and loud. The first thing I did was follow all the hashtags I love and a couple of accounts I engaged with the most. It all grew slowly over time, but I've got a lot of control over the number. I don't want to go past a limit as I need to make sure I get to keep up with everyone's posts. I was never that fussy when I was at Twitter a long time ago, btw. This is feeling more like a quiet coffee shop with lots of books and old school board games around me.

@haydenthorne @alexwild Yeah, actually, when I addressed the 'follows' issue I completely overlooked the fact that following hashtags is an end unto itself, and can fill your feed with interesting and incredibly varied stuff even if you never follow any of the accounts served up.

And I agree, to me this is like taking drinks from the garden hose out side in the summer vs twitter's firehose.

Oh, and? *Using* hashtags in your posts gets you seen, too. When I first got here, I started hashtagging every damn thing I could in my posts, and trying to post like crazy, pretty random and mundane stuff, to get engagement; I deliberately erred on the side of dumb overshares. Some might say I still do. 😜

TL;DR: #Hashtags are your friends.
