You should take this to mean that if you take VC funding that, yes, you should be ostracised for doing so.
Don't take VC funding.

 @aurynn Taking VC funding (selling tickets to the Torment Nexus) for my novel project (building the Torment Nexus) that will alleviate societal problems (it shreds the rich people that get in and turns their corpses into Soylent that we can use to feed people).
