I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a telescope for better pictures of the moon. But my camera does okay. I haven’t had much luck with planets.

Not to worry, when I mull something over it can be a very long time before I decide. Sometimes years 😅. I do okay with the moon. But I’ve seen some really detailed shots with telescope. I usually shoot off hand, but occasionally break out a tripod. @Swede1952 oh gosh, that saying a bird of a feather flocks together is so true. I love change but I also hate it with a passion. Why fix things that are not broke, yet I get excited to see change only to find myself totally frustrated, why am I fixing what wasn’t broke. But that’s called learning so I beat myself up trying to learn. This old dog WILL learn new tricks. 😂 |
@Swede1952 I am totally happy with my Canon Powershot. I tried telescope routine and you really need one that rotates or follows celestial objects as the earth turns pretty dang fast. Below were handheld pictures (no tripod) using ISO 100, on average 1/500 shutter speed and F5.6.
Last 2 pictures are collages of lunar eclipse. These are much harder to capture and a tripod is a must. Tap/click pics if edges cut off.
