@Gargron I mean. No fan of Apple but I'm extremely pleased to see Facebook execs screaming and twisting their limbs into pretzel shapes

@Gargron My favourite “We believe that personalized ads and user privacy can coexist.”

@Gargron i wonder why is it not hurting google the same way? Is it because they have their own OS?

@gargron
Snuggle up close, kids, and warm your hands by the flames of late stage surveillance capitalism...

@Gargron but wait, I thought the argument was "users *wanted* tracking to get the sweet, sweet targeted, personalized ads"?

Doesn't tracking "bring value to the consumer"?

Why oh why don't they see that?! :thinksphere:

@Gargron As someone who uses an Android, I can sense hope… or perhaps it’s just me?

Henry Mico, I wouldn't be so hopeful — Google is an advertising company.

It's nice to see this so-called attention economy in flames, at last.

As a user, I generally oppose the very concept of advertising anywhere at all unless that place is directly related to shopping. If I wanted to buy something, I'd go to a mall, thank you very much.
