 to those unaware of the power dynamics in play, let me explain: kazakhstan is a country that borders with russia and pretty much russia as a country has been exploiting and abusing us in some way or another. first as a monarchist empire, then Soviet Union came. russia as a country is pretty conservative, very militarized and VERY racist. it's like america, but in post soviet bloc. except even worse arguably. well, because ekaterina schulmann one day was talking in an interview about the political situation in kazakhstan and how it's related to russia, and she said A VERY INTERESTING THING, MIND YOU. (4/?) for a little context: back in January 2022 my country was struck with mass protests against our authoritarian president. they were so widespread you could compare them to the George Floyd ones. our people were tired of a richie dictator that corrupted the society and leeched off all of us. and guess what? protesters were shot down and arrested, called terrorists, and the shit was swept under a rug in a few weeks. everyone acted like nothing happened. (5/?) and the problem with schulmann is that she had the audacity to say that, quote: "This is a protest of the poor, who believe that they have the right to compensate for their unfair poverty in this way (pogroms, robberies) - These are not like the protests in Russia and Belarus, where students, girls and boys, pensioners, and creative intelligentsia come out" OH WOW. GEE FUCKING THANKS. (6/?) but what is even worse is that later during that interview schulmann said that "there is a social struggle and hierarchy between "zhuzes" in our society." the fun part? zhuzes used to be MEDIEVAL FUCKING TRIBAL DIVISIONS. THEY HAVE CEASED TO EXIST LONG FUCKING AGO. to put in perspective: imagine if some Democrat escapes to Mexico and then says that the Mexican society is still structured the way it used to be during its tribal days. white people moment what's even more insulting is that this whole conversation plays into the racist stereotype of kazakhs living in yurts and steppes like "primitive nomads" the same way indigenous people are thought of please do your fucking research I AM TIRED  @tillianisafox that's true, as a russian it's very depressing that the libs are like the only alternative to the fascist regime or at least they pretend to be @tillianisafox This is not okay. |

most of the people who live in russia are white and most of the people who live in kazakhstan are asian or mixed, so...yeah you see where I'm getting at. in short, an average russian doesn't like us much. this isn't to say all russians are racist, but a good portion are. and we obv have russians who were born in kazakhstan, but the mentality between the two are VERY different. the ones that live here are less bigoted.
