@HilliTech @terhechte In a way ActivityPub is better at RSS, as it has the concept of an inbox, and content is sent to the inbox.

I would like to do a "Public Mail" type of client, where lists act like inboxes with read counts, and people are also on the sidebar.

You could check lists and people as "read".

@Ciantic @HilliTech What I like most about Mastodon is that there's no fear that the API will suddenly be turned off. Happened to me with the Instagram API. One day they turned it off and my business was gone 😕 . So building these kind of "special interest" clients is a less dangerous investment (imho)

@terhechte I would argue that is not "special interest client". Client like you did there is meant for healthier consumption.

Current Mastodon clients are doomscrolling clients, which are meant to keep you engaged. They don't hide the content you have already read, so you need to constantly check if there is new content.

If you can mark things as read and done, it reduces the need to look at the app, thus Twitter wouldn't do that.
