Is it so much to ask for other journalists to like...take 5 minutes to check what they do?
PCGamesN just put this up...seemingly not checking the dates of the survey. They used a *year old* survey.

@gamingonlinux uhhh yeah, the system is doing well and is getting some ogf the games pre announced day 1 verified...I'm pretty sure it is going to be fine @gamingonlinux That is hilarious, it's like those first few weeks of a new year where you accidentally keep writing last year. Someone saw this, didn't realise it was 2023, and published it. @gamingonlinux I love the idea of what steam deck that can be. But no its not revolutionary. And I can’t see this being dominant going forward Now I by no means want to bash others, I make mistakes, but this is quite a big one for a front-page article to use entirely the wrong year's data. @gamingonlinux makes it more sus deleting the article instead of admitting their error and updating the article. @gamingonlinux No harm in laughing about it, really. I mean whoever published it was quick to notice and pull it down so, yknow, better late than never. @gamingonlinux have you considered: that headline is *prime* click bait, right now, due to popular sentiment being the *exact* opposite. What I'm saying is, it may be intentional misinformation/rage bait? @gamingonlinux Weren't they the ones arguing that the Steam Deck needed exclusive games, not realizing that it is a PC (for which there are already tons of exclusive titles)? @gamingonlinux Agreed. I can definitely see devs being cautious at first, but the system seems to be selling very well. I think a new survey is needed. @gamingonlinux Wow....do they even read current gaming news or are they using an AI bot to farm and write articles? @gamingonlinux using old data to push a narrative is just par for the course for outlets with little investigative skills. i remember people pushing this whol "stadia has lag" thing up untill the end, even though most of it was already gone within 6 months. (no it wasn't a good platform but the software was solid) @gamingonlinux oh yes. The clickbait website. They're a year away from "you won't believe what Mario looks like now!" @gamingonlinux PCGamesN hasn't been the best in terms of information validation. I ended up being used as a source for potential release dates for a project I was a backend dev on at the time, because I replied to an inquiry with a 'I don't know' and a pointing of then towards the person who was our actual PR point. @gamingonlinux to be fair, and with all due respect, theyre destroying their profession. It goes on not only in Gaming/Tech news, but also on almost every type of journalism. There are a lot of good, objective, respectful journalists in the world, but it appears those who get the 15 minutes of tv/radio/newsite fame are never part of that group... |
@gamingonlinux I remember the exact same articles coming out on gaming news sites back when it was first taken. Maybe they accidentally set their post scheduler to post this in 2023 and it's a year late. :P
