@atomicpoet You realize the inevitable next step is some venture capitalist deciding that there's money to be made aggregating all the disparate platforms into larger and larger agglomerations. Which will defeat the whole reason the Fediverse was created in the first place...

@toxtethogrady @atomicpoet corporations will buy up large instances, and already sorta do that, but the worst that'd do is send the actual, decentralized, community run fediverse back into obscurity. it'll survive, and it'll still be free.

i have some confidence that those large agglomerations will continue to openly federate for at least a while. they'll be easy to block if they become a problem, and if they're at least okay citizens in the fedi, they'll bring more utility both large and small servers
