Hi, indeed, I wasn’t sure hashtags would work, so it was worth testing. Thanks again for developing Smithereens; I’d like to help you but I’m not a developer… (I may help to translate the UI in French though, I’ll have plenty of time in the next weeks.)

Did you read this thread from @pluralistic@mamot.fr? It talks about Facebook, "natural monopolies", and switching costs: https://mamot.fr/@pluralistic/106291052294150351

Antoine-Frédéric, now I did, and he's right, as usual. Adversarial interoperability is a beautiful thing. I'm thinking about allowing people to import their data from VK and Facebook in here. That would already go a long way. The unsolved problem, however, is the interoperability part itself. As in, how could we make it such that you could be using Smithereen, while still communicating with your friends on Facebook? They absolutely won't let that happen, even if I reverse engineer the app API or mimic a browser. They'll say that this puts people's accounts in danger or some other bullshit like that.

Григорий, I’m sorry I haven’t replied earlier, because I was drowning in finals.

I don’t know if the new European #DSA law answers to your question? I’ve told @sl007@mastodon.social I’d document myself about it, but I still haven’t had the time yet.

Yes. It would.
Facebook is blackmailing the EU again like they did before, theguardian.com/technology/202
but that doesn't matter.
At the moment Facebook has “secret” talks with WTO in Geneva, anyway:
My mission is to build a good lobby for ActivityPub and again I want to emphasize that EU Tech Lea and Head of Unit “wants to learn about ActivityPub” which makes me happy.
En route via Fribourg to Strasbourg.
