@aral It is a strange paradigm where individuals who create the content have no domain over it... unless they're a business. I wonder how we can allow people to create and be discovered while preserving privacy/consent/permission and preserving the power within the federation rather than those that can assimilate and destroy it. I saw some discussions of licensing and I cringed at such a notion, I don't want to EULA my life away either. Can't we poison their data collection. Like, add a copyright notice and then demand takedown. Or perhaps even let others do the demanding, we just need to somehow get them scrape the cr-mafia's stuff... Just thinking. I keep thinking of Brazil (the movie), where Buttle short-circuits his tube-mail in his office and a few seconds later paperwork starts raining from the ceiling all over the building. |
Tech Bro Hypocrisy #451: Consent
“If you make something freely available on the web, we can take it and do whatever we like with it.”
– Oh, so I can just take your company’s logo and the copy from your site and use it? Download your app and redistribute it?…
“No, those are protected by trademarks, copyright, and licenses.”
