Self hosted WordPress is different to Medium (or Wordpress.com even) because it's your own site on your own domain. Not one big site with lots of users.
It"s neither here nor there if it's a self hosted WordPress or self hosted writefreely because it's the same principle with both. That's why I'm saying it looks like writefreely has more in common with a self hosted WordPress than with medium.
