OK. Fortuna is on my side, as always; I got one of the two questions I was prepared for. I'm getting my friends a Martini.

Next exam is 16 January. The subject is OOP. In particular, programming in C#. I've written like three programs in it, and visited two lectures in total. Let's see.

Re: OOP exam. Imma roll it with next to zero preparation, that's the plan.

The real thing to worry about is the Probability Theory exam on 20 January. I've started preparing!!! I don't get what a Borel set is.

Csepp 🌢

@bouncepaw Do they require you to know what that is? Because out textbook specifically said it won't be asked, at least not the precise definition. It did give a simple definition that it's a set constructed from... I think a countably infinite set of countably infinite sets with at most countably infinite set operations, maaybe excluding some specific operations? ...I should look that up...

@csepp no, it won't be asked. I just don't get it, and without understanding it I miss out a lot.

@bouncepaw Oh.
Also, oops, was wrong about the kinds of sets it uses:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borel_se

Apparently it uses open or closed sets, which are like open or closed intervals. I supposed the reason they are interchangeable in the definition is that using set difference or union it's easy to convert between closed and open sets.

And using countably infinite operations is similar to thinking about infinite sums in analysis.

OOP. It's a 5. OK. Real challenge begins: Probability Theory is next. Maybe I should just ignore it and get a 3? But if I get a 3, I'dn't be able to apply for a scholarship next term... It's not like they would give it to me anyway, greedy university 😤

I got a 3 on probability theory by the way. My first 3 since 7th grade!

In 13 hours it's my final exam: Mathematical logic and the theory of algorithms. I'll spend the night reading an unrelated book.

Instead of the exam, the teacher asked me and a friend to set up his I-Phone. We agreed. Of course we did, this is ridiculous! Spent two hours. How can they make transferring files so difficult!? They had good imagination.

Anyway, the teacher promised to give us 5:s. So, the final marks for the semester are

Calculus 5
OOP 5
Statistics 3
Logic 5

Each exam had a funny story. The most funny exam session for sure. But thanks to the 3, I cannot apply for the scholarship! Sad.

@bouncepaw sorry to hear about the scholarship, but great results otherwise! Were you relying on the scholarship?

bouncepaw 🍄

@voxel no, I didn't rely on it, I didn't have it. It means my family is the one that pays for education, instead of the government for at least one more year. Not doing that would've been convenient.

I didn't have the scholarship from the start because of the bad results on the One State Exam. But I generally tend to get really good marks, so I'm always thinking about applying for scholarship. Last time, they didn't have a spot for me (they gave it people in need). This time, I don't qualify.
