If you're going to recommend folks get off of Discord you need to have an offramp that is as easy to migrate to as Discord is to onramp. Period. Saying "don't use this thing" and then expecting folks to navigate server installation, client set-up, and god-knows-what-else is the equivalent of telling folks to not use shoes and then have them walk up the side of a volcano: nobody will enjoy it, it will be painful, and why are shoes bad anyway?

(Foreach offramp: provide onramp)

@craigmaloney I’m going to continue to use Discord as long as possible. My target audience aren’t programmers. The average person is more likely to use Discord than XMPP or Matrix and I can’t make Mastodon’s success dependent on the success of those technologies as it’s already an uphill battle. It doesn’t need any more hills. Same reason I’m staying on GitHub and so on.

@Gargron @craigmaloney I still think the proper solution for problems is to not force them to one siloed system, but allow them to use what they already have. Bridges make that easy. I’m very happy with that setup and have users participate in the same conversation from Matrix, Discord, Telegram, Slack, IRC and Gitter.
