@jan @Gargron ^this^ is my boat. I've been talking online since encountering BBSes and Fidonet in the early 1990s. All places I've been have had some kind of convention for quoting-and-responding. Sometimes that all on the people, and sometimes it's supported features in the software clients.

I truly don't understand why Mastodon has taken a hard and deliberate tack away from this.

@jan @Gargron I've read about harassment and pile-on and doxxing, and truly there are horribly egregious stories that bring ache to my heart. I don't get the relationship to Twitter quote tweets though, as though that is the only function they've served.

I mean, aren't we only 1 JavaScript bookmarklet away from "screenshot this toot and post in my own timeline" away from the twitter feature already?
