... because all knowledge areas transfer? One who understands circuitry is sure to understand plumbing on first contact, right? You're an expert in one area, so you're an expert in all areas? That's how it works?

There's probably a reason "jack of all trades, master of none" is a phrase people remember well.

Musk is out of his depth at Twitter. He may be out of his depth elsewhere. But the logic being used here is ... utterly assailable.

@joseph @rodhilton Would it be fair to say that someone who is very clearly not listening to experts who know more than him on one topic is quite likely to be ignoring other experts on other topics?

Joseph Ottinger

@rodhilton @annamal sure. Do we know that's the case? I don't. I don't know if I'd call him a genius or not, because I don’t know him, but this kind of projection seems like it’s own competing brand of stupidity.

@joseph @rodhilton Most knowledgeable IT,social media and law experts have made it clear that he is not listening to experts when it comes to twitter. Everything I know about code/systems maintenance tells me that his current approach is not one that anyone would advise. Unless there are facts not n evidence then I think it would be fair to say that he is ignoring the experts on twitter.

@annamal @rodhilton if you can show me where I disagree with that assertion I’d love to see it.

Annamal

@joseph @rodhilton I assumed when you said "Do we know that's the case? " you were asking about whether we were sure that he is ignoring advice from experts on twitter. Sorry to misinterpret, what were you actually asking about?

Joseph Ottinger

@rodhilton @annamal I was asking if we knew he was ignoring experts on other subjects as well. The claim was that he was wayward and ignorant on all subjects and I don't that I can agree with the assertion yet, esp since a year ago everyone was all YAY SPACEX or whatever, as we drove our Tesla 3s about.

Annamal

@joseph @rodhilton We don't *know* that, but given multiple reference points where we know he *is* ignoring advice from experts (HR, legal, international law, IT, cave diving, truck cab design) it seems *likely* that he would ignore advice on other fronts as well. Not a certainty of course but likely.

@annamal right. But WE are people who believe in science and reason and logic, and extrapolation, while valid, isn't very strong as a basis on which to form a valid opinion, and our commitment to truth and honesty is greater than our desire to dunk on musk. ... Right?
