@clipperchip @rodhilton Musk was quickly fired from PayPal for trying the same crap there that he is now doing at Twitter.

@clipperchip @rodhilton PayPal was suffering with a lot of issues so the board ousted Musk and replaced him with Thiel. Best decision they ever made

@gnolan @clipperchip @rodhilton maybe, but Thiel is also a dangerous ideologue

Don Tomas

@clipperchip In spite of Musk. PayPal came from the Confinity side of the merger with Musk's company X.com. He was ousted coz he preferred his own tech to PayPal.

correct except, Musk preferred Microsoft! to Unix.

Bowreality

@clipperchip @rodhilton It's really easy to walk up to a computer science student and say "hey, I have an idea, and I have money". It doesn't mean you know shit about shit. It just means you're good at manipulating others who do, and you have money to spare.

@clipperchip @rodhilton PayPal was a large beneficiary of being declared a “money services business” like western union and not a bank like regular banks. Banks have huge regulatory oversight and capital requirements and paypal does not. Musk also essentially acquired PayPal. Musk was also fired from PayPal. But because of the way executive compensation works he still made $400million at the end of the day.
