Come to think of it though, maybe itβs not at all surprising that journalists would buy it. Depressing, though.  @chargrille I'm inclined to agree those are all red flags that make it a non starter. From what we've learned so far a centralized for profit service that does not even answer to its own users is never going to be a good alternative. While I love the community of Reddit I think the centralized hosting and profit driven corporation as the ultimate arbiter of rules and moderation is a red flag. Federated servers supporting a diversity of users and moderation rules is it IMO. @chargrille At this point I don't think any commercially-motivated social medium is free of red flags. The strength (and weakness) of mastodon is the decentralised moderation. I hope that spreading this load across hundreds/thousands of volunteers works better than any "cost-centre" moderation with bad incentives ever can. But time will tell. |

Bardin's recent self-serving remarks about better content moderation are belied by his own earlier snide comments deriding "pronouns" & "PC" speech. I don't trust him as an individual.
Taking major funding from one of the major funders of Musk's Twitter takeover, just because they're the first people to write a check is...my god, such a failure on every level. It demonstrates just a breathtaking lack of serious thinking about their endeavor. It's surprises me journalists would bite on that.
