Mark Wyner :vm:

With all of the horrible things happening in the world, it’s nice to find the wins. Especially in the area of our environment. A group called Coral Guardian is restoring coral reefs, and it’s quite magnificent.

These photos represent 7 years of work on the Indonesia’s Hatamin Island. In this they have increased the fish population by 5x with 53k corals restored.

More wins like this, please.

@markwyner @adrianco would love to see get amplified by 1000x and be able to bring that work to the entire world! 🤘🏻

@markwyner I searched for an article where the transplantation process was explained in detail and I found one from India.

This is great. Watching the seemingly unstoppable destruction of the living world sometimes becomes very depressing and frustrating. Things like this bring a small glimmer of hope.

@markwyner
Thank you for showing this! I have been feeling so low about wildlife and the environment, it feels like it's all is in a downward spiral. Seeing this restoration project is really encouraging, if people put their mind to it miracles can happen. It's just a matter of overcoming the negative propaganda from the fossil fuel industry, they nearly always have a hand in destruction of one sort or another. Seeing this coral reef does give hope.

LostInPompeii

@markwyner Brilliant work. Hats off to all of them, and a big THANK YOU

@markwyner I bug the hell out of everyone about planting more mangroves. Mangroves are super cleaners that sustain huge amounts of life, protect coastlines, diminish storm surges, and is an eco-superhero!

Bruno Flávio

@markwyner great work!
Also, the website has nice content and it's amazing to read what's being done in and to recover corals!

Hayley

@markwyner won’t the sun and pollution just kill and bleach the new coral I’m the same way?

Jay Wendt

@markwyner Thank you nice to see something beautiful and encouraging as I begin my morning.

@markwyner Thank you for sharing a spot of great news. I will now do some research to see just how they are accomplishing such a remarkable improvement.

@markwyner As a scuba diver I can say, suprisingly, there has been a lot of coral regrowth in the past few years... Areas of the maldives for example show similar transitions.

Now to keep the humans away or they'll destroy it again

@markwyner my daughter in law runs a ocean based coral farm in Bali Indonesia. They frequently supply coral to restauration efforts and reef repopulation peojects. Important work for the future of our planet. My daughter in law has a website

@markwyner @shyduroff I’ve dived and snorkelled on areas where regeneration projects were going on - various frameworks a with tiny corals attached here and there. It’s great to see that these projects can genuinely work and restore self-sustaining ecosystems.

The BEST Words

@markwyner That’s so impressive! A collective sigh and thanks from citizens who care.

@markwyner When I first saw those photos, I thought they'd been reversed by mistake. Thank you for sharing this!

@markwyner that’s incredible! Thank you for posting it!

Tom Phoolery

@markwyner this is so beautiful to see. I found out that I can turn my ashes into a brick of coral substrate when I die and I’m totally doing it. Can’t wait to spend eternity in ocean city and have a bunch of shrimp live in me lmao

@markwyner Amazing! Now, how can we get this group down the Great Barrier Reef?

Des Gallen

@markwyner I once swam in the great Barrier reef, and thought it was destined to destruction, really delighted to see this post.

Elise Bowditch

@markwyner Thanks- I did not know that reefs could be restored so quickly

@markwyner @w7voa

Definitely good things going on, in parts of the ocean.

But....

I saw this graphic of the US is not on the graph, that's strange.

It seems after China stopped accepting for money, there were others to pick up the garbage, so to speak.

@markwyner wonderful 😍

And here youtu.be/ceAlK_Fw8ZQ is another great example of by Coral Restoration Foundation, in Key Largo, Florida, that uses "coral nurseries".

@markwyner I was very lucky to be invited to dive in Garajau marine reserve today. It's incredible the work people are doing. We just need a lot more of it. There were Seahorses, and Turtles and all sorts. Just incredible.

DarryB

@markwyner I'm not much of a diver, but I think I got away with it mate. They were too busy looking at big fish.

@markwyner @laurala it's so important to highlight places where people are re-weaving the ties of ecosystems. it's not as simple as "plant 1000 trees", it's about doing the repair work to create thriving ecosystems. and if you do things right, you might find a way for yourself to survive as well..as a member of the ecosystem too.

@markwyner It is good to see good things :blobaww: thanks for sharing!!

@markwyner the future seems so dark sometimes that it feels good to remind that it is possible

Danil

@markwyner how much it cost in money?
This days - businesses intentionally destroy ecosystem to make one more successful business about "restoring ecosystem" and make even more money, all those "eco-companies" are commercial and for profit.

> Coral Guardian is a non-governmental organisation.
