Dr. Amy, Psy.D.

Good evening, Twitter was a 16 year sociological study conducted by Harvard University. We are now complete with our study. Thank you for your time.

@dramypsyd look forward to the white paper ::blobcatreading:

Hope

@nisadani @dramypsyd so Musk was an artificial creation to introduce a chaos element to the experiment…and as anticipated the birds all flocked away…very clever…makes sense now!

Resting Facebitch

@TheMorrigan @nisadani @dramypsyd Basically all of South Africa was the background for the chaos element. And that started in the 1700s.

Jesse

@dramypsyd did we learn anything about the inflated self importance of specific billionaires?

Cusick

@jstroik @dramypsyd Relatedly, did we learn... anything?

Jesse

@cusick @dramypsyd I guess we learned.. ... not to do it again?

Dr Suzy J Styles

@jstroik @cusick @dramypsyd Ah! Yet another flagship study leading to a conclusion about the importance of ethical oversight - or lack thereof - in research design and implementation. You can find it in the section called… (checks notes) unexpected outcomes? 🤷🏻‍♀️

PeoriaBummer

@cusick @jstroik @dramypsyd Every journal they submitted their findings to objected on ethical grounds. No, not due to the shady methodology or lack of IRB approval. The results were a Lovecraftian cosmic horror that drove readers to absolute despair.

Jesse

@PeoriaBummer @cusick @dramypsyd

🤣

That's how Twitter makes people feel

Now I wish I could quote tweet. But not to dunk, instead because I love this comment and want to add context to my follower in case they open mastodon

WeiserAlterElf 🎃

@cusick @jstroik @dramypsyd yes, we learned that the one main question about life, universe and everything is...

Question "how would you spend $44bn?" with possible answers "1x Twitter" or "2.2bn IKEA blahaj plushies".
Dr. Amy, Psy.D.

@ceha @cusick @jstroik an Olympic swimming pool emptied out, then filled with those shark plushies

WeiserAlterElf 🎃

@dramypsyd Now you got me tempted to do a little calculation...

WeiserAlterElf 🎃

@dramypsyd Just did some calc, let me illustrate the result like this:
If we put a twitter-price charge of blahaj plushies side by side, they'd cover an area of about 440 square kilometres.
So not that much the dimension of a pool, but think of an epic plushy landslide suitable to bury most of silicon valley. Sounds favourable to me.

Dr. Amy, Psy.D.

@ceha I would love to be in the middle of that mountain, it sounds like sensory paradise!

WeiserAlterElf 🎃

@dramypsyd Anyway I have to admit a tiny midnight calc flaw: the 2.2bn blahaj could actually cover an area of _only_ 220 square km... just in case you plan some epic purchase now...

@cusick @jstroik @dramypsyd I think we already knew what the great Bard sang:
It’s hard to love
There’s so much to hate

Calista

@jstroik @dramypsyd We learned they tend to try and flex with money to buy their dough boy selves into the cool kids club, and tend to blame everyone else for their screw ups. A toxic mix of hypocrisy, arrogance, and poor listening skills. Gosh it's hard not to use bad words sometimes.

elf™

@dramypsyd I need 71 ribs pls, and fries...and napkins...cuz i get messy.

Ima growing elf~

Jacki Liddle

@dramypsyd could I please get a 1 page lay language summary of the findings?

InayaShujaat

@jacki_liddle @dramypsyd you could probably get a one word report. 🤣

Chriz

@dramypsyd Lol! Looking forward to the scholarly report.

Vincent

@dramypsyd I would love to see the IRB submission for that 😂

Crepuscular Marsh

@dramypsyd not sure how you got it past an ethics board.

Dr. Amy, Psy.D.

@drtifftaft @APBBlue hey! Yup just joined! I have a feeling twitter won’t be waiting for me in December

Dr T ²

@dramypsyd @APBBlue agreed. I'm trying to find everyone I can who I'm connected to on the bird app. I'm not on IG because Mark Zuckerberg is satan. So if you see something about where the cool kids from #TherapistTwitter are landing please let me know

Dr. Amy, Psy.D.

@drtifftaft @APBBlue will do! Same and with Neurodivergent Twitter as well

Dr T ²

@dramypsyd @APBBlue I should say the cool kids are those who eat during session while wearing cardigans and act like human beings on social media. But you know that

Dr. Amy, Psy.D.

@drtifftaft @APBBlue Omg have you watched Stutz yet? There’s a part where the therapist takes his medication in the session and I was like some people are gonna get sooooooo mad 🤣

Dr T ²

@dramypsyd @APBBlue I haven't but now I will. That's perfect.

Dr. Amy, Psy.D.

@drtifftaft @APBBlue I recorded commentary as I watched, I tried not to yell with excitement lol

Dr T ²

@dramypsyd @APBBlue a patient brought me delicious homemade guacamole recently and I totally ate it at the start of session. It'd be offensive to let it turn brown.

Land Snark

@dramypsyd @djsundog

That would confirm every one of my prejudices surrounding Harvard.

DELETED

@dramypsyd Was the study also capable of calculating the answer to life, the universe, and everything?

Dr. Amy, Psy.D.

@tobiasgray no that study takes much longer to complete!

InayaShujaat

@tobiasgray @dramypsyd everyone knows the answer is 22. It’s the question that needs to be sorted out. #DontPanic

Peter Skov Larsen

@InayaShujaat @tobiasgray @dramypsyd

What do you get if you multiply six by nine?
(and I thought it was 42 btw...am I missing a joke here?)

Sparkymike

@dramypsyd
Where is the participation trophy I was promised?

RiskFromHome

@dramypsyd yeah I'm going to need to have a chat with your IRB....

Ángela Stella Matutina

@dramypsyd Considering the scale of the study, let's hope they discover the equations of human behavior and invent psychohistory at the very least.

Caleb Crain

@dramypsyd This is very "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"

Chris Rowan

@dramypsyd I *knew* I should have read the terms and conditions more carefully!

National Security Counselors🕵

@dramypsyd I think you deviated just a tad from the Belmont Report principles.

Chuck La Tournous

@dramypsyd The simulation in which we live will now reboot to install an upgrade. Thank you for your participation.

Paul Fairie

@dramypsyd How on earth did you get the ethics approved for this study?

Kinniska

@dramypsyd where are the mice 🐁 going with the data, tho?

Jakki

@dramypsyd We're we the lab rats🤣🤣🤣

Metalpoet :pentagram:

@dramypsyd what exactly were you trying to learn? And what were your findings?

Because the words "turd" and "punchbowl" spring to mind...

Jim Daly

@dramypsyd So long and thanks for all the fish.

Tristan Henderson #UCURising
@dramypsyd so basically the followup to the Harvard T3 Facebook study, complete with lack of participant consent?
Oli

@dramypsyd Good morning. You must be in the wrong timezone.

Ridiculous Ginger

@dramypsyd nice to see you on here! I missed your tweets when I moved over here.

edpearl

@dramypsyd You're welcome. How are the mice doing running the Earth Experiment?

pia

@dramypsyd So long and thanks for the fish!

KleineSchwalbe

@dramypsyd
„How about the results?“
„Wait. Processing…. Processing (4 days later): 42.“
„Wuttt?“

canusfeminacanis

@dramypsyd

I though it was Johns Hopkins...who lied?

Minski

@dramypsyd Very much looking forward to read THAT publication😅 ...

Dr. Amy, Psy.D.

@LisaWasALooseUnit yes I’m not affiliated with any research institute!

ImlPINKY

@dramypsyd can you publish the results, please!!!!

Marcel Waldvogel

@dramypsyd Don't take the experiment down yet, it's not yet finished!

It's actually the mice that have been running complex experiments on humans through #Twitter as part of their 10-million-year research program to find the #UltimateQuestion.

Karl-Heinz Zimmer

@dramypsyd

Hi @zoesqwilliams,

the scales have fallen from my eyes now, thanks to Amy's message. 😀

Karl-Heinz Zimmer

@dramypsyd

So glad you told us.
I was wondering … 😂

DELETED

@dramypsyd do i get co-writing credit on the paper?

Dr. Amy, Psy.D.

@socks can you imagine that author list 🤣

Mr Bingley is here too

@dramypsyd I knew it! The point when you added it variables that couldn’t possibly be real were a dead giveaway

Newk

@dramypsyd But what about the cake? Was it a lie?

David LaFontaine

@dramypsyd too credible to be a real conspiracy theory

Make it Bob Jones U and the dirtbag left will adopt this as ground truth

nicolasmoulin

@dramypsyd Curious to know what was the objective of the study. If the question was "Are human stupid?" I dont think we needed 16 years to get to that conclusion 😂

Dr. Amy, Psy.D.

@nicolasmoulin it was humans conducting the study so maybe it took them a while 🤣

Bruce

@dramypsyd I definitely could perform an extensive psychological study from my four years on Twitter!

Ezekiel

@dramypsyd That's going to require a much longer debrief

Maria Wolters

@dramypsyd wow. That IRB approval must have been a trip.

PunkLion

@dramypsyd
Are you sure the ethics board approved it? 'Cos it got a bit dicey back there in the 2016-2020 period.

CL Stimmel

@dramypsyd This is hilarious yet conforms to many of my concerns about the field of sociology writ large. Meaning, foundational theories are deployed without navigating the choppy waters of algorithmic content mediation. Top of my mind is social movement theory. Under Twitter’s algorithm, for example, I don’t think it would have had a galvanizing role in the Arab Spring.

Johannes Link

@dramypsyd No study in social sciences is valid until is has been successfully repeated!

Dr. Amy, Psy.D.

@jlink Why do you think we are all here now? 😉

Raye Keslensky

@dramypsyd and how do you plan on compensating the "volunteers"?

paulwi

@dramypsyd Did I pass or fail by leaving early?

LisaAnn

@dramypsyd

That surprises me, thought it was more Stanford's kinda thing.

DeRo

@dramypsyd “Scientists wanted to see if they could influence those tested to repeat unproven nonsense. ‘The murderous hate mobs were an unexpected variable,’ stated one researcher.”
