@antimnguyen why is this not retroactive? If I do this, it just hides future boosts instead of past ones. This is a bit surprising because for example muting someone is retroactive (they are gone from my timeline instantly including their old posts).
What am I missing?

My guess is that notifications are handled differently: you can set an account to stop notifying you going forward, but your notification list is already an account of events where notifications have already been sent, for which you could potentially filter. It doesn't want to assume that you want to lose the event log of previous notifications when setting a future action.
