If anything, the money provides the main dev to do as he wish as opposed to work with the community.

The day Eugen will have to get another job (and mastodon.social disappear) we will finally have a chance to get good governance.

The money absolutey does not trickle down into benefits for instance owners and most of the improvement comes from the community.

Give money to tusky/metatext if you want to do something useful for everyone

@mxfraud @leo Last I checked, Eugen still contributes a significant amount to the software itself. I agree that Tusky and Metatext are preferable mobile clients, so definitely donate to them, but there are some pluses to 4.0. And having an instance 10-100x larger than the one I'm on means any scaling issues we have will be solved problems by the time we get to them.

@ian last I checked I contributed a PR, it was rejected and Eugen just did his own with the exact same change.
It was a detail, like a couple line or something, and maybe it was not looking decent enough.

Yet that's a change that on paper is his.
It happend to other people and maybe it doesn't happen that much anymore.

Also if he wants to keep coding, why not get someone to do the project leadership, those are different skill sets.

@mxfraud @leo Those are indeed different skill sets. Maybe he'll figure that out with the rush of users. Or an alternate ActivityPub impl will push him to be a better steward of his.

@ian @leo I am rooting for the second one (Maybe it'll be GoToSocial, maybe it'll be something else)
