 @swetland @neilhimself @stephenfry Trying to find the words to invite computer users into taking greater responsibility over themselves, their work tools and their social networks has been a struggle. I'm always optimistic, but I know how much work it is to convince people to put more thoughtfulness into the precious things on their computers. @doctormo @neilhimself @stephenfry I thought this poll about age breakdown from @mcneely was interesting. If this is an accurate representation of Mastodon demographics then it explains why I feel at home here. @doctormo @neilhimself @stephenfry When Twitter changed from talking between people to instead talking to KFC or Burger King, and seeing ads of the same, it was the beginning of the end. Wendy's may come to Mastodon, but I hope it feels differently. |
@doctormo @neilhimself @stephenfry There will be challenges and growing pains, but the advantage of a protocol-based, open, federated network is that many people can contribute to improving the clients, servers, and network itself (including specialized variants of all), which is not possible with proprietary systems controlled by a single company.
