I disagree with the #Fedified founder.
And I think he's in for a rude awakening if he tries to push VC-style start-up culture on the Fediverse.
Thing is, many of us have built start-ups. We know full well what that entails. And ultimately, he has it backward:
Anything built by corporations will have short term growth but they'll hit a wall. This is because VCs are not long term thinkers.
The proof: neither Facebook nor Twitter are long for this world.
I've said this previously. With the old startup model, you might be able to capture significant marketshare for 20 years. You might even be one of the most valuable companies on the planet during that time. Hence, Meta.
But if you want something people will use indefinitely, you need to build a protocol.
Guess what? Corporations don't want to build protocols. Hence, a startup-driven version of the Fediverse will probably fail.
