@Gargron what do you think of Signal my friend?

Eugen Rochko

@jhdonatog I have it, but most of my usage on it has been talking to journalists. My actual friends do not seem to like it. I do not understand why the UI just feels clunkier compared to WhatsApp and Telegram.

@Gargron I believe that after this marketing that they are doing on it, it will undergo updates and will be better for the end user

@Gargron I really liked this “study”. Imagine all the creative energy poring into Signal now. Who knows how much they will improve soon 😃

@Gargron slightly unrelated but: what do y'all think about the way apple and Google are handling the Capitol thing? I have mixed feelings because for one part it's good that facists can't communicate but it come at the expense of our privacy.

@vgarzareyna I think they’re in their right to not want to host certain apps but the monopoly of the App Store on iOS has to change. On Android it’s at least possible to install apps manually.

@Gargron That was a really good read.

Also the error message shown in it is a thing of beauty.

@Gargron Thanks for posting.
My 2-bobs-worth.....Been using Signal for a few years now...and it's initial product didn't have the "bells and whistles" like WhatsApp, but it has improved significantly...but one thing has been consistent ( as far I know), the security is pretty cool...
Only biggest issue is the size of the app/files....unlike WhatsApp there's no "relatively easy way" to migrate all media or even the app/file to external SD card...but suspect that is also due its security ethos..

@Gargron I'm not keen on Signal. The UI itself seems alright. What I'm not a fan of is the management/leadership.

A privacy app built for "privacy" should be very easy to download without an app store, yet they promote getting it from known app stores. They also anchor fear to the standalone APK download for android, labelling it the "Danger Zone". If the app and service is as secure and trustworthy as perpetuated than why anchor fear to the non-app store version?
