Decided to look at network stats again. There are 1M more people using #Mastodon today than there were on October 27. @Gargron Well, Twitter is slowly dying, and this seems like the highest potential alternative... @Gargron Any stats on who is joining - eg country, language, BIPOC, age, or interest groups (science, hci, oer, etc)? @Gargron How exciting! What kind of challenges does this level of growth bring to the platform? @thewaytozion @Gargron I am German but live in the US is that international? Lol. Try to make advertisement for Mastodon but that needs time. @Gargron there is something really needs to be here for better experience... I hope its gonna better day after day. โ๏ธ @Gargron Is there a way we can look at the stats ourselves? Apologies if this is something that's a quick search away... @Gargron thank you for your work Sir. Your contribution to society is invaluable. So grateful. @Gargron have you counted the number of new instances? My rough approximation from looking at a couple of start sites is around 1200-1500. That's the beauty of Mastodon/Fediverse scaling to me... It's not just one big monolith, there is horizontal scaling and more people / orgs investing in the whole network. @Gargron Amazing what two weeks of crashing bird site into the ground will do for alternatives. @Gargron that's some awesome growth! I've also just joined and really liking it so far! @Gargron Not surprised while Twitter is burning down unless a massive change happens or miracle. @Gargron everyday the bird seems more insane. At some point mastodon will reach critical mass and the rest will flock away turning Twitter into myspace. @Gargron how about new servers? @Gargron to be honest, I wasn't eager to join. Still, it seems like most of the infosec Twitter is moving here and so I had to join in order to remain in the loop. I think this is definitely a great achievement for a social network: it means that an avalanche effect is starting! ๐ @Gargron It is amazing how well itโs working despite the influx of all of us. Hats off to everyone behind the scenes for an amazing job and making us feel welcome. I know Iโm happy here. @Gargron I have been trying to sign in to adjust settings but I think I tried so many times I lmay have locked myself out. Is there a help center? Sorry for being so clueless. @Gargron The more EM melts down, the more folks are going to head for the exits. If things do collapse (as it seems more likely every day), it's game on as people look for alternatives. Brace for impact. @Gargron Could the massive migration from Twitter be the cause for secure connection failures? I experienced one yesterday and the day before. They typically lasted all day. |
@Gargron Keep at it, Musk!
