Something that happened 2 weeks ago:

An executive I know wanted specific Fediverse software for a corporate intranet. I happened to know the guy who made it.

So I said to him, "All right, if you go this way, you have to understand that the Fediverse has its own culture and you have to respect that."

He agreed -- so I set up a meeting.

Right when the meeting started, the dev -- who is a big autistic furry -- walked into the office in his fursuit, and made his presentation. (Contd.)

So my big autistic furry dev friend makes his presentation -- absolutely kills it. Pretty much rolls out a compelling case for his software.

But I'm looking at the executive, he's frozen in disbelief.

After the presentation is over, we make our goodbyes.

45 minutes later, I get a call from the executive. And he tells me, "It's cool. I like it. It does everything I need -- but the Fediverse now scares me."

"But you told me that you'd respect the culture," I said (Contd.)

And after a brief lecture about culture and all that, the executive tells me, "All right, I get your point -- but if this is what I can expect from the Fediverse, I just don't know what to *not* expect."

That, right there, tells you everything about how ready corporations are for the Fediverse.

@atomicpoet
I mean, if I had a guy in a Fursona costume introduce me to some technology, I'd probably be a little wary, too.

Though at the same time, I would trust the heck out of that furry.

@riderexmachina @atomicpoet Furry equals IT expert.

That's why you never fill up a single plane with Furries. Your countries IT systems would collapse if that single plane goes down.

@atomicpoet I'll give it a decade at least. I'm starting to see companies leaving Amazon servers and going back to LAMP and I think we'll see more people starting to break free of megatech's monopolies. And some CEO's fear the inconvenience of going back to having control instead of convenience.

@atomicpoet Wow. That's a presentation I'd love to see. Not sure I'd have the confidence to do something like that myself - I still hesitate wearing my tail in non-work settings.

Also, as an autistic furry that likes gentle macro/micro stuff, you describing your friend as "big" brought to mind him having a larger than normal fursuit (e.g. hidden viewport for eyes at neck level), so he would have been looming over the executive, making for an even more amusing mental image.

Still, even at the same height, that's one heck of a first impression.

@atomicpoet not all corporations are equal. Believe me.
