I'm just curious. In which timeline do you spend most of your #Mastodon time?

@jwildeboer I use the advanced web interface, and I have Home and Local, and some tags as columns.

@jwildeboer The federated one is too busy, so I never look at it.

Ton Zijlstra

@jwildeboer I'm on a 1-person instance: home is all there is :D

Appbeza Duckface

@jwildeboer Federated feed at night time, since I'm on a regional server.

Jack McKracken

@jwildeboer as a single user instance home and federated are the same for me and local is just me 😅

Daniel Schildt

@jwildeboer Home sweet home. Other timelines are unusable.

Odin Halvorson

@jwildeboer I bounce between them - there's a totally different vibe on each. A curated on, in a sense, on my Home which reflects who I've followed. I made my choice of Local server intentionally, so it's lovely to see this picture of a specific community. Then my Federated gives me glimpses into the broad discussions.

Andrew Baker

@jwildeboer Home, but I’m only because I’m on a instance of one

Leanne

@jwildeboer For now I spend more time on my home timeline but I just joined and I'm still getting things figured out.

@jwildeboer this is probably a "tweetism", but because the other site timeline was so bad, I defaulted to only read posts from the people I follow, and largely ignore others (unless I'm bored, or looking for something specific). This is nicely achieved here with the "Home" timeline.

Will Rehwinkel
@jwildeboer Home timeline, and also local to see if anyone else joined this instance, but I mostly follow all other users on this instance so they show up in the home feed
Fridrich Strba

@jwildeboer But also federated a bit, since I am pretty new here.

Paul

@jwildeboer There's not a lot of point looking at my local timeline on a single-user instance 😉

Andy C
@Paul @jwildeboer Au contraire. Grab the RSS feed and you have an instant backup of all our posts - ever.

@Paul It's a nice shortcut to listing all my posts when I look for something ;)

@Paul @jwildeboer You'd at least be guaranteed sensible conversation with like minded folks 😂

Stefano

@jwildeboer i still have no idea what those are and most importantly why should I care?

Josh

@reed Home is posts and boosts from people you've followed.
Local is posts from everyone on the server you're on. Federated is posts from the server you're on AND from other servers federated (networked, basically) with your server.

But you certainly don't have to care if you don't want to!

@jwildeboer home (with boosts on) on main. Local on some alts. Never federated.

paeneultima

@jwildeboer I wonder how much single-user instances will skew results. My local timeline is pretty useless 😂

chiasm

@jwildeboer Well, up until this last tsunami of activity I was starting to get bored with Home and I was spending some time scanning local and federated for interesting people and instances. But for the past week and some, now Home is plenty, thanks!! 🤣 I started bopping around on my Friendica account while the mastodon instances were being upgraded, and that has led to a seriously improved appreciation of what federation is all about! 👍

@jwildeboer
A mix of custom column with bunch of tags of interest and local. As I'm only building a connections here, home has not been very useful for me yet. I used to have federated, but it's too noisy and too random.

tze

@jwildeboer all three about the same amount of time

fred spieler

@jwildeboer is it possible to even view federated timeline from the android app?

DELETED

@jwildeboer Since the beginning of the current wave, I use also two lists.

Cresso The Grey :verified:

@jwildeboer At the moment I've been spending most of my time on the explore tab, trying to find accounts to follow. Federated and local have too many posts I don't care about, and since I'm new my home has barely any posts.

Sander van Kasteel

@jwildeboer Home, because both my "local" and my "federated" timelines are empty 😿

Jørgen Ibsen

@jwildeboer depending on the time of day, Local has started to scroll by so quickly it is hard to keep up 😅

Baloo Uriza

@jwildeboer I have a feeling this is going to have an unusually high "home" bias since that's going to be where most people are going to encounter a boosted post.

@solarbear

ɗℯʃƕρʋ

@jwildeboer It used to be local, but then my instance shut down and I had to move, and it's not the same anymore.

I spend it in #Pleroma and elsewhere because there's so much more to the #fediverse than #mastodon, why would I want to limit myself? 😎
