@thegibson - While soldering a PAL/NTSC switch onto my Amiga 500 I accidentally sneezed and soldered together several pins of the Agnus chip.

It took a few days, and antihistamines before I worked up the nerve to fix it.

Amazingly everything worked out, and I nolonger needed to use software to flip between PAL and NTSC modes, making it a lot easier to play games and demos from anywhere in the world. (at the time it was a big deal)

@thegibson - Addendum - I never again soldered on a motherboard. 😅

@YAb0 @thegibson Funny you mention that. I watched as a friend tried to remove his Agnus chip to upgrade it. Three of us watched, never having done it ourselves. He struggled to get it out, so pulled out a trusty pocketknife, and promptly pried the SOCKET off of the motherboard instead. I recall weeks of him waiting for a shop to replace the socket at his considerable expense.

@murph @thegibson - Oh wow, that had to be painful to watch. Traumatizing even.

@YAb0 @thegibson It was. Nonetheless, it is the subject of good-natured ribbing to this day.
