4.

Migrating subscription data for a service.

Colleague had wired up the payment processor to place a charge on subscription save. (That doesn't belong there.) I run migrations over and over to validate the ETL process.

Lessons learned.

5. It's ~2001

Initial customer visit for some contracting. Things have gone well so far.

As we finish, customer asks, "by the way, can you see if staff have been looking at non work sites on this computer?"

I type as i answer, "sure, just enter about:cache in the browser!"

We both look at the screen in silence.

I close the window. I never hear from the customer again.

Lesson learned.

6. It's ~2002. Being a renta sysadmin for a hosting shop.

Customer is having extended outage due hitting resource limits, and in response to complaints asks us to disable their *other* customers, a kind of round robin outage I guess?

I email my colleague "wtf, is this even legal?!".

I learn the "check if you are using reply all" lesson.
