@thegibson It would be bad to replicate Twitter. Everyone talks about how they hate it. But it was, still is, The Platform. For another month tops until the servers go down, as they fired so many peeps keeping them up. The moderation never worked. They did bare minimum to keep advertisers. It was full of hate. I'd rather this place stays smaller and happier, than have everyone from Twitter move here. Leave sexism, racism, and all that shit there. Thanks Elon. Sincerely. @TheGibson I know people’s expectations are low, but Jesus Christ! But in all seriousness, as it pertains to social media platforms, it’s nice to see something Federated get a shot in the arm, but whether or not, it is enough to sufficiently grow the platform to attract more users is another matter all together. The secret is, I couldn't care less if the platform itself grows. I just want people free of the data silos. @thegibson It's as if internet dipped into dark ages for a while, but I see the light of the things that drew me in in the first place. We're still not out of the dark, and there will be other attempts to reign in the promise of that future, yet I'm cautiously optimistic. @thegibson Most younger people today do not understand how disappointed we are from the present, because we had anticipated a future, maybe not better but not so trivialand irrelevant. And where for fucks sake is my space elevator they promised me? @thegibson @peachfront @N3m0 @thegibson Space elevators, flying cars, universal basic income....all lost dreams of the 60s. @markj @N3m0 @thegibson I thought flying cars were something I would actually have to worry about-- I had some spatial challenges & was certain I would grow up to wreck my flying car... Little did I know how little I had to fear! @nicki @peachfront @N3m0 @thegibson Nah, they are innocent. Now George's boss....well he's pretty shady 😉 @markj @peachfront @N3m0 @thegibson @thegibson @markj @peachfront @N3m0 that was always the biggest hurdles to the technology tbf. Absolutely! It is so nice to not have an algorithm decide which content I see next on my timeline. It is also nice to not be bombarded with ads. As a teenager I discovered BBS chatrooms and this reminds me of those days. It is definitely part nostalgia for me but this is also how it should have always been. I do not want a drop-in replacement for Twitter, I want something better and I feel this is it. |
@TheGibson Now if only some of the Twitter escapees would understand this...
