@MadestMadness @red @yaaps If you want to run a cluster that's shut off from the rest of the world you can already do that using "limited federation mode" which is what you describe. However I am vehemently against this as a default mode of operation and am not interested in using anything that's closed off like that. If I want to start a personal server for myself I don't want to need to get permission from 20 entrenched admins.
@Gargron @MadestMadness @yaaps i haven’t tried running in limited federation mode yet, but based on what i’ve read of it, i’m guessing there are quite a few relatively easy to implement quality-of-life features that would make what you describe rather feasible, Maddie
i don’t have a ton of plans for ‘fedi 1.0’ features (bc i’m guessing they won’t make it upstream, haha) but i can look into what it would take to make limited-fedi mode a more habitable experience 👏✌️
