There’s no internet connectivity at this festival so it would’ve been handy if I could use it

Convinced friends to try it and we can’t get it to work without the internet even when standing next to each other

@Gargron Briar uses Bluetooth to ultimately bridge to some connection using Tor. It's useful if enough people have it that it can ultimately make it there, but like Amazon Ring, it has to leech from someone at some point.

Though it does shock me that it can't handle local communication without that connection. If people are contacts and in range, you'd think it would go ad-hoc.

The idea of you standing next to each other and wanting to use a messenger is already disconcerting in terms of interpersonal communication - even if it's clear in context why you're doing it ;-)
