I probably go way overboard with supplementary material when I listen to it with other people. It's like when you point out the Peter Jackson cameo in the Lord of the Rings movies, except with recurring musical themes that represents a specific character and doing lyric analysis right then and there
I legit don't know if I'm doing myself a favour with that, I only realize that it's different to how I was experiencing those songs initially -- it took months of getting familiar with them, where you'd go from just humming along to the melody to actually beginning to recognize the lyrics, finding the actual lyrics, spending time piecing together the story, beginning to notice leitmotifs...
