Would you rather prefer an early app beta release at the expense of some missing features like DMs and Stories or would you rather wait for a feature complete release?

Feedback and shares are greatly appreciated! #pixelfedApp

@pixelfed
An early release would be way better, so we can directely adress bugs & request new features!

@pixelfed I think getting it out to get people invested is a big key factor. It’s one reason, like many, why we dont use pixelfed as often

A solid release is great. But I feel that could be for full teams working with on it all the time

But if done with a good selection of things like the standard ‘here are are my photos’ are around then other features can be done later. The main thing is posting photos. You know then what needs looking at with revisions or new features via feedback etc

@pixelfed also ‘feature creep’ can be a minimal thing with a beta/pre release

@pixelfed@mastodon.social Definately early! Also, I have TestFlight so I can test it on iPhone & iPad! Hmmm…I now have to checkout @support & see what their prices are for a @pixelfed@pixelfed.social instance!

@pixelfed in the short term, beta app is better than no app.
in the long term, Full feature release is inevitable.

@pixelfed@mastodon.social I prefer a full translated UI to spanish...

@pixelfed I just want the app on iOs already, please and thank you. I am more than happy to beta test and provide feedback.

@pixelfed early release would be better. The more users using it will find more bugs and maybe give feedback as to what works and what doesn’t work as a user experience

There are already other apps without core functions. Just go on air when it's ready.
For core functions I mean ability to upload resampled images without metadata, DMs and instant short stories.

To get things done faster, maybe you're interested in closed beta releases and crowdfounding early access

@pixelfed Full feature release. I'm patient.

Erin

Release it with all basic social media functions.

Then improve the app after release with frequent updates & fixes.

@pixelfed full release so I can tell my friends who are no geeks to switch and they won’t miss some major function.

@pixelfed In my experience it's always better to get *something* out, than wait until you have everything in place

@pixelfed It depends somewhat on what features are missing, but so long as the software works well (missing features, but no known bugs) I would go with the early release.

BTW, I consider missing DMs a feature, not a bug.

@pixelfed
Can't you open an "beta" version separate from the "stable" release? 🤔

Kir 🛠

@pixelfed honestly — missing DMs and Stories would be a feature.

Sam Beebe

@pixelfed I'd prefer a Pixelfed app on iOS release sooner and leaner rather than later and fatter. The basic function of "ethical photo sharing" is super in and of itself. DMs, stories, and live are extras and low on my priority list.

Both.

Early release on a beta channel to gain feedback.

Feature complete can take some time, so it's more targeted towards non-technical people. Perhaps helpful to shoot for a regular cadence (once a quarter?).

This allows for experiments but also has a period of stabilization

I would recommend Direct APK download for early android. TestPilot for early iOS. Release both in-store on time.
