That actually would work. In one Strange New Worlds episode, we see Erica Ortegas, while suffering amnesia, question the computer in very informal and confused language. The computer nonetheless understands and tells her what she needs to know, including very basic information that no programmer would ever expect any Starfleet crew member to not already know, like “who am I?” and “I fly the ship?”
