@evan Qualified no as the university I went to is currently engaged in actions I disagree with strongly so I don't want to have anything to do with them anymore.

@evan I'm a qualified yes. As long as the fediverse is relatively marginal, I would hesitate to spend energy having several context-specific accounts. But my ideal would be to have as many accounts as there are significant contexts in my life.

Evan Prodromou

@malte more, fewer, or the same number as email addresses?

malte

@evan More than I have email addresses.

John Francis

@evan strong no, I probably still owe them library fines.

@evan I would probably use it for the Game Development Club, which I'm hoping to revive. Until my university starts their own server, my own is pretty adequate for that task

@evan If I were a current student, etc., yes. Alums, nope. We're done.

M. Grégoire

@evan Would have done so as a student. Not so interested as an alumnus.

@evan your university already does too much surveillance

@evan@cosocial.ca Qualified no as I don't need yet another Mastodon account. If it's not Mastodon I would move my personal one to it, though if I have to migrate out of my personal account unexpectedly I would probably take the Mastodon anyway. :cirnoShrug:

@evan if we had federated linkedin, maybe

I don't consider which university I graduated from important for anything I'm currently doing on the fediverse

Stefan

@evan I would not create an account on it, as I already have one. But I would be happy if my previous universities even just had their own account to follow, regardless of server.

@evan Very strong yes indeed. It's a potential for the new global academic network, the way WWW was meant to be.

cuan_knaggs

@evan projecting from when i went: i didn't use the email address i got from them so i wouldn't use my account. but i would happily engage with those that do, especially staff

@evan I never had a computer at university, and I certainly didn't have internet, wifi, or a mobile phone.

Evan Prodromou

@skribe but clearly you have a way to connect to the Fediverse now.

@evan my last visit to my university was 2005 and that was for business.

Simon

@evan a server only for students would probably result in the most unbearably smug and patronising atmosphere imaginable xD And I say this as a student myself.

SkullGamer205 :AwAtix:

@evan@cosocial.ca It's cool, but i prefer to join in that server, where I want to been.

But this idea is so cool!

@evan I voted qualified yes, but IMO it wouldn't be much useful without scoped file sharing.
