I rarely don't add alt-text to images, in those cases I post something I want to show only to a certain person. Besides that I rather not post a picture before I post something without alt-text. There were cases where I just link to an older toot of mine with a picture (with alt-text) instead of re-posting it, because I'm too lazy to put in the alt-text again.
I wish I could put alt-text into a metadata fiels of a picture instead of typing it on the fly when posting.

Two things. First: Oh my god, my toot is full of typos. I'm so sorry!
Second: The IPTC standard enhances the metadata information stored in a pictures Exif tags. One of the IPTC field is a caption/description field. Or in short: There is the possibility to store alt-text in pictures metadata and we should use it. We as in we, the users, but also as in Fediverse, the client apps, the server software, etc.
