@hypha yep, and it seems better than akkoma with disk space, i forgot how i set it up or maybe i am just lucky lol
using pleroma @nigelharpur single user instance is super chill @hypha I must give it a go! It was actually all the protective stuff keeping the spanners n spammers at bay, along with all the other baddies. I know that @cambraca who keeps musicians.today puts a lot of effort in to making our space a joyful place, probably far more than any of us 'regular folks' ever imagine! @nigelharpur @cambraca by running your own instance and being the single user, it limits a lot the unwanted interactions @hypha nah, - I have too many things I need to worry about, a fedi server is the last of my worries @hypha@cafe.mycelium.locahlo.st yep, it's honestly really nice - I get to run whatever software I like, with the patches I like and a blocklist I like @hypha I have an instance running at cats.mastodon.musk.sucks, but I don't really want to live there and I don't want to moderate and admin a community, so I'll be shutting it down. @hypha yes, I know, but it will be lonely and the hashtags will be empty unless I pickup a lot of relays. @hypha Does running 2 medium sized instances count as selfhosting?
@hypha my server infrastructure is waaay too unreliable to put something like this on there lol. my uptime is horrific Avery :neocat_flag_bi: :neocat_flag_genderfluid:, most ActivityPub software retries delivery with exponential backoff when the recipient's server is down so you'll still eventually get most of your feed @hypha@cafe.mycelium.locahlo.st Went to host it for one day, Mastodon filled up my hard drive, so I stepped away from it for a while, and later set up Sharkey @hypha this is missing the option for "yes, but would like not to" which I think it needs for symmetry
(I like the domain name :-) @hypha I host a sharkey, but I mostly use stux instance :neocat_laugh_tears: I dont know what to choose... @hypha Yes and no. I don't self host this instance where my main lives, but I do self-host the Akkoma instance that my private alt lives on. @hypha@cafe.mycelium.locahlo.st I love the idea of doing it but it just both tight on money as well as learning to set it up. If I have bit more disposable money, I might give a try doing single-user instance for myself @hypha to a degree. :) Setting up a VPS is easy, figuring out how to make mastodon work over a consumer residential dynamic IP address, that takes some work. ;-) I recomend the prior. ;-) The latter wasn't fun. (But did provide a sense of accomplishment) @hypha is it really? If you're paying a hosting bill I think not... There is no cloud, its just someone else's computer. @hypha@cafe.mycelium.locahlo.st |
@hypha yes or no depending on the considered requirements for “selfhosting”
