No, I meant OpenVPN

Wireguard sounds cool but very few vpn providers support it. Also what vpn do you recommend ssv? For general use, OpenVPN. Idk enough about about any of the other technologies to recommend them. Wiregaurd is supposed to be the hotness that's supposed to replace OpenVPN eventually because it has better throughput and performance. The only thing I know about it is pfsense removed it from standard deployment due to something being wrong with how it interfaced with pfsense and causing a security concern for the netgate developers. That's not a denouncement of wireguard, that's just all I know about it. I know but isn't openvpn a just a client, do I still need a vpn service to interface with? It's a client, a server and a protocol. You can host the "vpn service" yourself and then use your pinephone with a client, connect to that server so you can then access the resource that is on the network the server is on. If you are trying "anonymize" yourself you would then need a provider (not recommended) or better yet spin up a server on a VPS that why you can trust you are not being logged. @splitshockvirus @nerdtronics @10leej a personal vps might save you from your isp selling your browsing history but it won't do anything to hinder tracking since the ip will be static and only used by you
@roboneko @10leej @nerdtronics Well I'm more of a generalist when it comes to technology. Even the method I described is not 100% fool proof either. In general terms I'd say just use Vultr's OpenVPN application. However you can't fully trust that there isn't some sort of VPS backdoor access to the filesystem, samething goes with literally every other VPS that you didn't upload the ISO image of the distro you are installing. tl;dr use TOR @splitshockvirus @10leej @nerdtronics
if you're worried about back doors uploading your own ISO won't save you unless it uses SGX or the AMD equivalent. the provider controls the hardware and can see everything if they feel like putting in the effort but yeah I agree tor is nice @roboneko @10leej @splitshockvirus Best OPSEC measure period. 100% effective!! |
