@drq @skobkin Many of the good architectural bits of Dendrite (e.g. horizontal scalability) got incorporated into Synapse - and Synapse is now going further by accelerating the hot paths with Rust.

In the end, we just don't have $ to implement both, and with P2P Matrix unfunded there's even less of a driver. So, just like 2018-2020, Dendrite is on hold other than best-effort development. Turns out that for folks to work full-time on FOSS they have to be paid.

@element So, there will never be a Matrix server that isn't a mess to run and manage. Okay.

@drq @skobkin synapse is fine to manage these days, and certainly no worse than dendrite. meanwhile there are loads of other server projects too (conduit, conduwuit, grapevine & friends)
