@jenniferplusplus @cwebber why is that so massively different with activity pub software, or at least a lot of it? and also, for your buck, you don't even get the dignity of not being indexed and crawled by their algorythms, so you can still be sold ads, on your own server space, without any of that money going to you. A person told me that matrix is as decentralised as bluesky is, that only afew matrix servers will exist because of the fast development of the protocol, etc etc, but like, I don't think they really knew what they were talking about. I'm running a matrix server, the software is synapse, known to be very space hungry, and with all the federation and the huge amount of rooms I'm part of, the db size barely goes over 40 gigs nowadays. Sometimes, when I was joining really, really big rooms and not vacuuming the db for a long time, it went to like 80 gigs, but even so, that's nothing when compared to bluesky. What the hell? if matrix designed their protocol to be easily taken over by big tech like this person clames, then bluesky didn't even try to pretend not doing so was even in the question to begin with
