At some point in the next 5-10 days (I asked about follow-up), I am 100% getting a call from the dermatology department going "hey, you know your dodgy mole? We should take that off". I KNOW!!!!! JUST TAKE THE DAMN MOLE!!!!!

Have received a message saying I have "atypical naevus" (medicalese for "dodgy mole") and they now need to look at it in person and... I FUCKING KNOW WE ALL FUCKING KNOW WHY DID YOU WASTE A PHOTOGRAPHER'S TIME

Off to see an actual doctor. If I come home with this fucking mole still on me I'm gonna be fuming

Another Angry Woman

the fucker is GONE

update on this: it was melanoma in situ (ie pre cancer), something which they could have told me earlier had I not been sent for a random photoshoot. I'm fine, still salty about how long this has taken lmao

You know what, gonna take this saltiness as a moment to do a bit of raising cancer awareness, because there are five warning signs of a mole being melanoma and this fucker, pictured with the genuine markup that doctors use to tell the surgeon what to remove, had FOUR of them (and I knew it was dodgy and needed to come off, it just took ages etc etc).

A small flat mole on my leg, about the size of the top of a pencil. It is a circle with another smaller circle coming out of it, giving the effect of a cell in mitosis. It is mostly mid brown with some black bits, particularly in the smaller area. The edges are blurred.

The warning signs have a neat acronym: ABCDE.
A = asymmetry. Normal moles are pretty symmetrical, the dodgy ones are a weird shape.
B = borders. Normal moles have a pretty well-defined border. Dodgy ones like mine have hazy borders. If you zoom in on mine, it looks smudgy round the edges.
C = colour. Normal moles are mostly a pretty even colour. Dodgy ones have varied colours. Mine had a much darker patch.

D = diameter. Bigger moles are more worrying. That's the only warning sign I didn't have.
E = evolving. Rapid changes are a cause for concern and readers, this dodgy mole looked ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LIKE THAT a year ago. It was a neat little mid brown circle.

So anyway, see a doctor if your mole is fucked up in any of the ABCDE ways because apparently it takes forever for them to take the damn thing off.
