rotating wing aircraft is madness.
like heli-pilots are a whole other breed of human, so much going on from a physics perspective.

@kusuriya @thegibson @randomgeek @nathans gotta love those giant counter-rotating rotors though… Also gotta keep in mind the size of a chinook… they’re not small. The spacial awareness needed to fly one effectively is ridiculous. @Wrewdison @thegibson @randomgeek @nathans also keeping in mind the cargo inside. I was in one once where they forgot they were carrying people in the back and swung it around like a centrifuge to turn it around. A mid air 180 on a dime. @kusuriya @thegibson @randomgeek @nathans that’d be fun! @Wrewdison @thegibson @randomgeek @nathans Once my stomach settled and I realized I was still inside the helicopter it was fun. @kusuriya @Wrewdison @randomgeek @nathans Things that look graceful from the ground, rarely are at altitude. @kusuriya @thegibson @randomgeek @nathans VRS (settling with power) is a thing. This is the result. |
@thegibson @Wrewdison @randomgeek @nathans dual rotor like the Chinook are a whole second level of madness too. You have an air frame with two cuisine arts strapped to it that moves in all directions at the same time but still flies.
