@sdw Having written about Apple for actual decades, I've seen plenty of valid criticism (from myself included), but it seems like in the last few years, it's become "cool" to dunk on inconsequential things. (No, the $3T company doesn't need anyone to defend them, I just am sick of whining and would like to get excited about computers with other people who like computers.) @sdw Standing ovation over here. I actually owned an ID.4 for three months, and one of the primary reasons I dumped it was these controls. Let’s not forget that they’re *unlit* too. Unlit touch sensitive slider controls in a moving car at night. What could go wrong? *I think current models *may* be backlit, but it took 3 years to get that done. @sdw he’s apparently designer at Elli, the VW charging station company. But yes, VW has lost its way with every button on their entire range of EVs. @sdw 2 things can definitely be wrong at the same time, but man that car control panel is horrific @sdw Touch screens in cars should be positioned so that the driver can't reach them - they're toys for *passengers* to play with. @sdw https://is.gd/Yog6hr @sdw I mean yeah. He's right. The point with Apple is correct in any given way. That he's a Designer at Volkswagen and makes the same nonsense is ironic. @sdw can confirm. I have driven a (rented!) VW Golf with this exact button/touchscreen layout. It is abysmal. There are so many large and small things wrong with it. Worse, yet, is the headlight switch on the left hand side of the steering wheel. It has three settings that look like the capacitive touch buttons AND a button that looks like a status readout. In some configurations two LEDs light up, one orange, one green and it is not clear at all what that's supposed to mean. HOW DO YOU FUCK UP A LIGHT SWITCH?! @sdw this guy's department designed non illuminated control buttons in a car, right where one places his hand when operating the touch screen. He has absolutely no saying in this. @sdw lots of apple defenders in this thread. It's like no one can believe both commentators are correct. |
@sdw I have to use my Mac Studio power button about once every 3-4 months because I tripped a breaker or our power went out. Who are these freaks that need to press that power button constantly?
My guess is . . . . engagement baiters.
