Devastating scenes of piled-up cars in #Valencia, #Spain today after yesterday’s historic flooding. A year’s worth of rain fell in a few hours with a peak of 500mm.

@zoom_earth but remember folks, its simply too expensive to take action against climate change...

@hejsimon @zoom_earth taking action now means reduced profits for the big companies and billionaires. not taking action means damage to property and goods. rebuilding property and replacing goods leads to increased profits for big companies and billionaires.

@gi124 @hejsimon @zoom_earth Not taking action means also injuries and fatalities.
Not to mention loss of food security, spread of diseases, social unrest, loss of species, etc.

These crimes against society and nature are adding up. One after the other, everywhere. Corporations, governments and politicians actively blocking action are accomplices in them.

@zoom_earth nature bites back and chooses the automobile as the symbol of its disdain @fuck_cars_bot

@zoom_earth Day after day, on and on.
And still we do nothing.
As the years roll by watch capitalism find itself another source of income - climate change mitigation. Treating symptoms rather than cause. It's easier to sell people a mop and bucket rather than attempting to turn the tap off; people just love to buy stuff.

Nadie se imaginaba lo que venía..mucho ánimo a toda la gente de Valencia, sabemos que no es fácil.😔

@zoom_earth One way of getting ICE cars off the roads. If we won’t do it then nature will do it for us.

@zoom_earth “Spanish weather service AEMET reported that Chiva, in the Valencia region, recorded 491mm of rain in just eight hours on Tuesday - the equivalent to a year's worth of rain.” bbc.com/news/articles/c93qlpp5

I saw video of it last night and read this morning that 51 people have died from this weather event and many, many people are missing.

@mighty_orbot @zoom_earth 19.3 inches over 8 hours!? I just went through a CAT4 hurricane a couple weeks ago and we had less than half that much rainfall and we're still dealing with flooding.

I can't even imagine 19 inches...

@zoom_earth

Oh dear 😩

I live in a town that suffers from flooding, thankfully I live above the flood line, but the devastation caused by flooding affects everyone to some degree or other.

The initial cleanup can happen quite quickly, a month or two, but it takes YEARS to recover properly.

The people who live in these homes and work in these businesses will have lost everything.

The kicker? Insurance companies won't insure against flood after an event like this.

I hope everyone is ok!

@zoom_earth "Just Stop Oil" protestors jailed for....blocking roads....riiiight. The hardest lessons are the hardest to learn. Learning isn't always a linear process, sometimes it takes huge leaps forwards...will this be one of those?

@Judeet99

No. For most of the time people only radically change their way of life if they're in mortal danger (and even then not always). And unless there's a radical change, the current system that feeds and is fed by the money nobility will try to maintain itself for as long as possible.
Unfortunately climate change is such that taking action when the life of many thousands or even millions is in danger will be far too late.
Or in short, this civilization has entered its end game.

@zoom_earth The vehicles will begin to do environmental damage fairly quickly. The good news is that many structures seem okay. May God bless us all?

Camember La Ratona

@Teop_Versant @zoom_earth We have more than 50 deaths ans innumerable people still disappeared :(

Teop Versant

@Camemberratona @zoom_earth Very sorry to hear that. Wishing you all the best.

Oh my god that's a whole lot of devastation from something the fossil fuel industry wants us to believe is a hoax. #StopTheBS #ClimateEmergency

@zoom_earth
I hate it when climate protesters block roads, don’t you?

Sir Toootenstein

@zoom_earth Damn, that looks like a movie scene 😳

Benjamin Colliot

@zoom_earth I suppose the automotive manufacturers response to this kind of (more to come) event will be to create heavier cars so it cannot be moved by climate change induced floodings? 🙄

Xerz! :blobcathearttrans:
@zoom_earth far right managed government barely even acknowledged it before it was too late, as the emergency unit got dissolved back in 2022 without making up for it 👍

@zoom_earth

Unbelievable… :(

The destructive power of water should not be underestimated…

Rad und Tat (bikeberlin)

@zoom_earth Maybe some of the people who clearly don't care about human suffering (at least 51 dead!) will start paying attention when they realize their cars might be a risk of climate disaster.

Looking at you #CDUCSUAFDFDPBSW voters.

Anlagentip: Mehr Aktien von Versicherungen kaufen. Die werden boomen.

(Ja, ist Sarkasmus, aber gleichzeitig auch ein realer Anlagentip, insbesonderer Rückversicherer)

It’s just the weather, right? :trollkipleur:

@zoom_earth Meestal zit er bij berichten over extreme regen wel een foto of een filmpje met een verdrinkende auto, maar nu in Valencia was de bui duidelijk erger.

@zoom_earth Weather Modification just like in Vietnam War

@zoom_earth people were dying and we cry for cars.
THAT is devastating.

Daniel Marks

@zoom_earth I fear many places near rivers and streams will no longer be habitable as these flash floods become ever more intense.

@zoom_earth nothing to see here… right petrooleum companies?

@zoom_earth my god, piled together like toys

@zoom_earth There is no climate change impact at all, looks like it is all a hoax.

Devastating and terrible for everyone impacted. But we are not doing anything to slow down the path.
