Yesterday we went for a walk along the river and saw a kingfisher bird – flying along the river with its glittering blue feathers glittering like a glitch in the landscape. I love birds. 😍
And today we went for a walk in the forest and heard a strange bird call. A woodpecker but not quite. I switched on the Merlin app and it confirmed my suspicion: a black woodpecker! My wife suggested we follow the call and try to spot it. And we did it! After a few dozen steps there it was, flew towards us, landed in a try, examined it, flew on.
Birds are the best.

I brought the macro lens out for our walk yesterday. I was hoping to find some beautiful mushrooms but we were late. Towards the end we stopped by a little pond in the middle of the forest. The sun was about to set and we saw a red dragonfly resting on a stone. Then we saw two green dragonflies examining the shoreline, occasionally going after each other and we hunkered down, trying to take pictures. And then one of the dragonflies landed in front of and looked like it was laying eggs, turning around and around, touching the ground with the tip of its tail! And then it was attacked by the other dragonfly right in front of our eyes, turn on its back and feigned death until the aggressor moved off! Amazing. (The video of that encounter is on my wife's phone and she didn't share it with me, so it's not on the website for the moment.)
