Decided to return it. Lesson learned: double conversion is the best choice for your equipment, but gets really annoying if it's in the same area where you work or sleep.

oh fuck

So a power surge just happened. The worst we ever had. I don't know if everything survived, and won't know until tomorrow evening.

Good news: computers are alive.

Bad news: coffee machine is dead

So there are several dead appliances, but a good thing here is that they had fuses or varistors, and they do their job. Coffee machine even boots with a blown fuse, but shows a critical error, lol.

The problem is, how do we source several different fuses and varistors in minimal time.

So another problem surfaced. We need schematics.

Shit that broke inside these expensive appliances is dirt cheap. These self-sacrificial components are intended to be dirt cheap and replaceable. We have all the tools you can imagine. We can source necessary basic electronic components. We have skills.

But it is impossible to read markings on some components that literally blew up. We need schematics to make sure we're doing this properly. Manufacturers don't want to provide schematics, they want us to pay a lot of money. Bonus points for manufacturers that just left the country.

I couldn't imagine that I would become an even stronger right to repair advocate. But I am now.
